Profession: Model, Artist, Designer, Veteran
Where were you born and raised?
I was raised in Okinawa Japan and all over Southern California. I moved every two years so I never really made solid ties with any particular city, but I do love San Diego County.
Growing up were there any people that influenced your decision on getting a tattoo?
It wasn’t until the last 10 years of my life that tattoos became a prominent thing in my life. My brother became a tattoo artist and next thing I knew I had a huge back piece as my second tattoo, my mother had a full tattoo sleeve with the rest of my family following suit.
What made you decide to take the plunge and get your first one?
My brother was apprenticing and needed a guinea pig to tattoo so I volunteered myself… Best decision of my life.
Do you have a favorite tattoo, and does it have a meaning behind it?
My favorite tattoo is my back piece. It is two koi fish and kanji. One koi is swimming with the current and has flowing fins. The other is battered and swimming against the current. They represent the inner struggle I had while serving in the Marine Corps. A part of me wanted to succeed and make the Marine Corps encompass my life. Another part of me wanted to just find happiness and tranquility, which was impossible with the career path I had chosen.
How did you get into modeling?
I started modeling before I even had tattoos. I just wanted to break out of the introverted shell I had built for myself. I have been modeling off and on over the last few years, taking breaks due to my other career. I didn’t take a serious step into it, until this passed year, after I became a Veteran.
What or who are you’re inspirations?
My boyfriend inspires me because he always encourages my creativity and is so driven with his own projects that it motivates me to keep going. The model that inspires me the most is Miss Mosh, that girl has poses for days and a killer style. I get most of my photo shoot inspirations from my accessory designs because they bring out a style of their own.
What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working with several photographers to shoot my designs from Black Filigree Couture. I have a feature in Lowrider Magazine coming out around July 2013 as well as a feature just being released in Missy/Ink Magazine, Obscure Magazine, and Delicious Dolls Magazine . I have an ongoing relationship with Oznola Apparel and plan on making more strides in the industry throughout the remainder of the year.
